We left the USA at 1045 am on February 7th after staying up until three am getting things ready. Brian woke at four, night shift woes. We travelled to Seattle, then to Nairita, Tokyo airport. After getting off and through customs, looking at train fares two guys and a girl with a camera and microphone came up and said "Japanese TV" and started asking where we were from and what we were doing. It was really silly. We got our tickets and we began fighting sleep on one of the trains to meet Alexis Peacock.
We got to the Shibuya station and began our search for Alexis. She said she was at the huge intersection where everyone crosses the road. We obviously were in the wrong spot! There was hardly anyone outside. We took about a 5 minute walk when an old Japanese man asked if we needed help finding our way. We said we did, and he walked another 5 minutes with us and we found Alexis! Her daughter Kate came along too.
This is legitimately a road...Do you see one? yah, me neither. |
Alexis! How we found each other, I will never know. |
Best Sushi I have ever had! |
We walked the streets smelling the smells of Japan. We came across a sushi place and had amazing sushi together. Alexis told us about her life and how it was living in Japan. What an upbeat and positive person she is! She then took us to a dessert shop where we got 3 ice cream/custard/cake/frosted flake desserts. It was sooo good! We got a choco tacos as well. Alexis said the best way to order was to take pictures of the food we wanted to order and just point. Haha. It worked pretty well!!
Oh the Desserts! :) |
We then walked a little more together and decided to go to Tokyo tower. It took us a bit to get some yen so we could buy a subway ticket. By the time we got money, Alexis said she needed to go home. It was great to see her and discuss living away from America. We departed ways and began our journey to Tokyo tower.
Tokyo tower is 333m tall. It looks amazingly like the Eiffel Tower! It was quite the site to see. We walked around the tower and in the base of it. We didn't go up because it was 10:30 pm for Japan and that means it was wayyyy past our bedtime. We were really tired and had to find a hotel room for the night. We left the tower and headed for a hotel when we passed a Japanese temple! It was really cool on the outside with little tiny people statues with what looked like crocheted beanies placed on the heads of them!
Once we got a hotel, which took some time walking from place to place getting colder and progressively more tired/desperate/frustrated, we got in the room and after cleaning up a bit, and using the beday for the first time, hit our pillows for a solid 7 hours of sleep. It was glorious.
Side note, I had my first squatty potty encounter in one of the train stations. Ha! Its gross, if you must know.
I love all the pics, but the last one is just too cool!
